I'm sick and tired how the Internet works these days, especially websites.
It's sad to see how so many websites are using JS (JavaScript) wherever they can. Things like AdBlockers (uBlock Origin), ScriptBlockers (uMatrix, NoScript), and several other, almost necessary, tools to browse the internet "safely". They are doing a great job, don't get me wrong, but when did you browse a website the last time without one? It's a mess!
Tracking, profiling, ads, and what not everywhere you go.
I for myself am done with this.
I love the open source community, the decentralized services and everything we (yes we, I also did my fair share of work) have created over all these years. To counter all those things, I decided to take a meassures.
- No more "regular" Web-Browser, text only (lynx, w3m, bombadilla)
- If a website is offered on gemini/gopher, I will visit the site from there
- If a website doesn't "work" in a way I expect it to work in my text browsers, I will not visit it again
- If I can't use a service with my text browser or a good working NATIVE(!) client (no Electron!), I will not use the service
